Research Background:
The scientific and creative focus of Pavlína Brothánková is based on the fields of nursing and otorhinolaryngology, within which she focused on the examination of the sense of smell during her doctoral studies in Nursing (PhD 2014), specifically on the development of a test for the examination of the taste for smells, which can be used not only in patients in otorhinolaryngology but also in other medical disciplines and in nursing practice. Since 2009, he has been working at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery of Pardubice Hospital, Hospital of Pardubice Region a.s. and since 2011, he has been teaching in bachelor and master study programmes and conducting research in the field of nursing at the Department of Nursing, Faculty of Health Studies, University of Pardubice.
Her research focuses on disorders of smell and taste. In this area, he focuses in particular on the development of tests for the examination of smell and taste, which are useful not only in connection with the field of otorhinolaryngology. Another area of scientific interest is the assessment of the quality of life of people with olfactory disorders.
Pavlína Brothánková is currently a member of the research team for olfactory disorders. She focuses mainly on methods of self-examination of smell and taste, rehabilitation of the sense of smell by measuring respiration and assessment of the quality of life of people with olfactory disorders. Since 2020, he has been involved in the development of a new method of self-examination of taste using telemedicine using unique foils impregnated with taste-quality solutions (grant of patent No 310140 to PV 2022-251 "Tester for taste testing, a test kit comprising the test kit, a method for evaluating the collection of data from the application of the test kit and a system for collecting such data").
