The Department of Clinical Subspecialities was established together with the Faculty of Health Studies (FZS) in 2007. Initially, it consisted of two divisions: the Division for Lifelong Learning and the Division of Emergency Care.

In 2018, the Department of Clinical Subspecialities merged with the Department of Informatics, Management, and Radiology into a single unit – the Department of Clinical Disciplines, comprising two divisions: Emergency Care and Radiology.

Currently, the Department of Clinical Disciplines is divided into three divisions:

  • Division of Paramedic Studies
  • Division of Radiology Assistance
  • Division of Organization and Management

Organizationally, the department oversees two clinics of Pardubice Hospital:

  • Surgical Clinic
  • Neurology Clinic 

About the Department

The department’s goal is to continuously improve teaching quality, enhance the professional expertise of academic staff, strengthen cooperation between course guarantors and other lecturers, improve material and technical resources, and expand collaboration with leading Czech and international experts as well as with the clinical practice. 


Study Programs Offered 

Paramedic Studies – Bachelor’s Program

(in cooperation with the Military Medical Faculty in Hradec Králové, University of Defence in Brno)

In this study program, the students will learn to assess, plan, organize, and provide healthcare. They will learn to collaborate effectively with other team members and will learn to operate and maintain transport equipment, including driving in challenging conditions. Furthermore, they will learn to evaluate critical situations and initiate life-saving measures.

Students will gain an understanding of a range of fields, including emergency medicine, disaster medicine, anesthesiology, resuscitation, and nursing. Students will also learn how to conduct research and apply its results in their field.

Career opportunities: Graduates can work as paramedics in healthcare facilities providing specific nursing care in pre-hospital emergency care, including air rescue services, and in acute inpatient intensive care, including emergency departments.


Radiology Assistance – Bachelor’s Program

In this study program, the students will learn to perform radiological imaging procedures used in medical irradiation. They will learn to assist during interventional radiology procedures and will learn to apply therapeutic radiation techniques and nuclear medicine imaging and non-imaging procedures. Furthermore, they will learn to provide specific nursing care related to radiological procedures.

Students will gain an understanding of a range of fields, including radiology, radiodiagnostics, radiotherapy, nuclear medicine, and nursing. Students will also learn how to conduct research and apply its results in their field.

Career opportunities: Graduates gain professional competence as Radiology Assistants, authorized to perform imaging methods and apply ionizing radiation in outpatient and inpatient healthcare facilities, veterinary surgery, and research institutions.


Organization and Management in Healthcare – Master’s Program

In this study program, the students will learn to organize and analyze the current situation of an organization. They will learn to set strategic goals and budgets, navigate health and social policy, and communicate effectively. They will participate in research and development in selected fields and will collect and evaluate data. They will learn to develop procedures to improve healthcare quality and to implement new quality and safety assessment systems, based on evidence.

Career opportunities: Graduates gain specialized education for non-medical healthcare professionals and can work in managerial and leadership positions at all levels of healthcare and social institutions. They will become a Specialist in Organization and Management as a qualified expert for clinical practice.

All Master’s programs offered by the Faculty of Health Studies, University of Pardubice also serve as specialization studies for allied healthcare professionals. Meeting the professional practice requirements before graduation ensures that the graduate obtains both a full university degree and specialized competence (as per the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic). Without fulfilling this condition, the graduate receives only the master’s degree.

Science and Research

The department participates in projects of the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic, internal grant competitions, and student grant competitions at the University of Pardubice. Research activities are supported by faculty research teams, focusing on clinical research, joint projects, publications, thesis supervision, and international cooperation (https://fzs.upce.cz/en/fzs/projects).
