Research Background:

Vít Blanař´s scientific and creative focus originally stems from the fields of nursing and otorhinolaryngology, within which he focused on researching hearing disorders in patients working in noise for long periods during his PhD studies (PhD 2017). Since 2016, he has been teaching in Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes and conducting research in nursing at the Department of Nursing, Faculty of Health Studies, University of Pardubice. At the same time, he works at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery of Pardubice Hospital, Hospital of Pardubice Region a.s.

His research focuses on nursing care, often in conjunction with the field of otorhinolaryngology. In this area, he focuses on swallowing disorders, nutritional disorders in nursing care and on hearing screening of newborns using otoacoustic emissions or automated auditory brainstem potentials, communication difficulties and quality of life of people with hearing impairment and the quality of nursing care.

Vít Blanař is currently a member of a scientific team working on improving nutritional care in nursing. His primary focus is on the possibilities of early diagnosis of energy or protein-energy malnutrition, evaluation of nursing interventions in the context of nutritional care and assessment of nurses' and non-medical health workers' knowledge about malnutrition. New research directions include linking the nutritional assessment of geriatric patients with taste testing using taste foils developed by another research team at the FHS UPCE and nutritional assessment in specific patient groups. Changes in taste have been demonstrated in geriatric inpatients, which may be related to reduced food intake or an undesirable preference for certain foods. This fact opens up new research directions concerning food modification about patients' taste preferences.
