Description:
Conversation maps (CM) are the tool for modern education. CM integrate the visual and auditory perception with sharing patients' own experiences and attitudes. The aim of the observation project was to evaluate the influence of an educational lesson with CM on the patients' knowledge. The level of knowledge was estimated with a non-standardized questionnare before the lesson, after the lesson and one month later /on the phone call - information retention test/. Results: 21 diabetes patients were involved in the study. The knowledge score was 56% before the lesson, and 72% after the lesson (p<0,001). One month later, the knowlwdge score was 79% (NS). The patients in the control group (matched for sex, age, diabetes type, and education) had a knowledge score of 70,5% (p=0,002 compared to the active group before the lesson with the Conversation maps). Conclusion: The educational lesson with the Conversation maps significantly improved the participants' knowledge. The improvement endured in the information retention test after one month.
