Evidence-based Nursing Process

Provider: Univerzita Pardubice
Programme: Studentská grantová soutěž
Implementation period: 01.01.19 - 31.12.19
Investigator: Mandysová Petra
Team member: Šoukalová Kristýna | Matějková Iryna
Description:
The project focuses on a specific phase of the nursing process ? assessment, whereby the aim is to support evidence-based nursing. In the Czech nursing clinical practice, appropriate evidence-based instruments for the collection of data concerning various aspects are lacking. This problem includes instruments for an assessment of health literacy (HL) as well as for an evaluation of the patients´ knowledge level concerning various health conditions, such as diabetes mellitus and plan. Yet pain and diabetes mellitus are very frequent health problems that nurses in clinical practice encounter. Various instruments for an assessment of HL in lay people and patients with pain are available abroad; however, no such instrument is available in the Czech Republic. Thus, it would be useful to introduce such an instrument to Czech nurses, e. g. by translating and subsequently validating a suitable instrument. The first aim is to translate a HL instrument, the Newest Vital Sign, into Czech and to conduct its linguistic validation. Feedback will be collected from patients with chronic pain. The second aim is to evaluate the psychometric properties of a knowledge questionnaire for patients with diabetes mellitus.
