Professional background:

Petra Mandysova was formally trained in Nursing, completing her BSc at McGill University, Montreal, Canada (1993), Master of Science at the University of Phoenix, USA (2007) and PhD at the University of Pardubice, Czech Republic (2014). Her PhD research focused on the development and implementation of a dysphagia screening tool. In 2018, she became associate professor in nursing.

She became interested in neurosciences during her work at the Montreal Neurological Hospital / McGill University Health Centre (1991–2000) and became certified in neurosciences by the Canadian Nurses’ Association. In 2000, she joined an international team of health professionals and supported the effort of a newly opened hospital, the Shaikh Khalifa Medical Centre (SKMC) in Abu Dhabi, UAE, to obtain Canadian accreditation. During her five-year stint at SKMC, she was responsible for developing and implementing nursing and multidisciplinary standards and protocols. In 2006, she moved to the Faculty of Health Studies, University of Pardubice, Czech Republic where she teaches at the bachelor and master level and conducts nursing research. She has also presented at nursing conferences in Europe, Asia, and North America and has lectured at universities across Europe and in Japan.

Her current research efforts focus on strengthening and furthering her international collaboration, mainly in the area of evidence-based patient assessment by nurses, patient education, and the development of research methodology in nursing. Examples include the development of a decision tree for the translation and linguistic validation of instruments and a documentation form (a translation protocol). The decision tree and documentation form are currently being tested in a research study in Finland. She is also interested in conducting systematic reviews, using Joanna Briggs Institute methodology.
