eng Brief evaluation of pleasantness of olfactory and trigeminal stimulants Objective: To evaluate a brief olfactory test based on pleasantness rating of olfactory and trigeminal stimulants. Participants: 60 subjects (48 healthy, 12 with olfactory loss) aged 16 to 81 years. Interventions: New Test of Odor Pleasantness (TOP) based on classification of odorants and trigeminal stimulants into four categories was compared with two standard tests of subjective olfactometry. Results: All three tests demonstrated significant mutual correlation (p less than 0.01), and subjects suffering from loss of olfaction scored lower than the healthy ones (p less than 0.01). Using exploratory factor analysis and cluster analysis, we found that healthy subjects classified odorants accurately according to the degree of their hedonic character. Conclusions: We conclude that the TOP offers similar outcomes as those standard tests of olfaction that are based on psychophysical testing. olfactometry;odor pleasantness;trigeminal stimulant
