eng Results of Czech version of the Hearing Handicap Inventory for Adults from the viewpoint of pure tone audiometry Introduction Rising of the life expectancy in European population causes a lot of social problems. One of them is hearing loss, which is more significant in elderly and considerably reduces the quality of life. The authors focused on evaluation of subjective feelings of people with hearing loss and the Questionnaire Hearing Handicap Inventory for Adults (HHIA) represents one of the possibilities of theirs quantifying. Aim of the study The main objective of this research was to find out the correlations of both, the results of HHIA and hearing thresholds using tone audiometry. Methods The research group of 72 patients with symmetric sensorineural hearing loss formed 17 women and 55 men, mean age 52.04 years. For the evaluation of hearing impairment in emotional and social areas was used Czech version of the questionnaire HHIA. These results were compared with the thresholds of hearing at the speech frequencies (0.5, 1, 2, 4 kHz) in a pure tone audiometry. Results It was proven correlation between the auditory threshold and results of the questionnaire HHIA in emotional r = 0.55583 and social r = 0.65056 areas. Conclusion Adequate assessment of hearing impairment in terms of problems in emotional and social aspects of life with hearing loss can help healthcare professionals in the treatment process. For a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment, it is appropriate to involve the patient in the care of his health as much as possible. Questionnaire can be used for example to complement diagnostics for evaluation of the benefit of hearing aids. Czech; version; Hearing; Handicap; Inventory; for; Adults; pure; tone; audiometry
