eng Monitoring of progress in postoperative pain intensity Introduction: Sufficient ways and means for alleviation of acute post-operative pain are available; however, their transfer into practice is a problem. International and Czech studies still show that there is a high number of patients suffering from pain after surgery. We consider unethical that patient´s post-operative pain is not adequately treated. This particular work is part of in-depth study in one healthcare facility: depiction of quality and safety in regards to the management of postoperative pain. Previous sub-study showed high intensity of pain imminently after transferring to post anesthesia care unit and decrease of pain intensity two hours after surgery. Aim of the study: To find out the intensity of acute pain of patients after 8 hours after surgery. Methods: Analysis of medical documentation (233 documents of adult and hospitalized patients, focused pain´s records) and semi-structured interviews (123 adult and hospitalized patients, up to 48 hours after surgery) were provided during January 2018–March 2019. Values > 4 (0–10) were recognized as inadequate treated pain. Results: Pain´s records 8 hours after surgery were missed in documentation. Using interviews, inadequate treated pain was detected at 8 hours after surgery in 36.6 % of respondents. For example, intensity 5–6 was found in 26.9 %, 7–8 in 8.9 % and 9–10 in 0.8 % of patients.Discussion / conclusion: Insufficient of post-operative pain management, which we consider unethical, was found (36.6 %). The causes will be analysed. Relevance for research and practice: Based on the results, it is necessary to set up pain management with managers so that the recommended pain intensity is not exceeded. The result will be reflected in practice by changing the settings in pain management. New research project will follow this study with focus on pain evaluation. pain; surgery; documentation;
