Introduction* Currently in the CR there is lack of questionnaire that would verify the level of knowledge of patients with diabetes. Such a questionnaire is needed because the numbers of diabetic patients are increasing and need to be able to evaluate the effectiveness of the implementation of Education. Aim of the study* Creation of a knowledge questionnaire for patients with diabetes mellitus and validation of its psychometric properties Methods* The questionnaire was developed based on cooperation with 12 health practitioners and calculation of the content validity index (CVI) for each proposed area (min. acceptable value of 0.8) and each specific items (min. acceptable value of 0.78) of the questionnaire. Subsequently, the clarity of the questionnaire items of patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM1T) and type 2 (DM2T) was verified and the questionnaire difficulty ("readability") was determined by calculation using Mistrík's formula (the ideal value of average text: 30-40 points). Results obtained from 258 patients (DM2T 226; DM1T 32) were used to evaluate the difficulty of the questionnaire items by calculating the difficulty value (0 = single item; 1 = difficult item) and its internal consistency was determined by the Kuder-Richardson formula (min. acceptable value 0.7). Results** The final questionnaire consists of 5 main topics, 16 areas and 53 items. CVI ranged from 0.5-1.0 for each area, 0.33-1.0 for each item. Areas and items achieving CVI values less than min. were determined. The calculated "readability" was 38.47 points. The difficulty values of the items ranged from 0.24-0.72 and the internal consistency for the individual questionnaire topics ranged from 0.70-0.88. Discussion / conclusion** The created questionnaire has very good psychometric properties (high content validity and internal consistency) and the questionnaire text is well understood and has an average difficulty.
