eng Trends and Opportunities in Nutritional Assessment for Patients with Head and Neck Cancer Oropharyngeal cancer is associated with high mortality rates. Prevalence of malnutrition is high, affecting up to 81% of patients, and are often complicated by dysphagia, making careful nutritional assessment essential. This study aimed to compare nutritional indicators in patients with oropharyngeal cancer before and during treatment. Conducted as a quantitative cross-sectional study beginning in June 2022. Assessment included anthropometric measurements, handgrip strength, blood analysis, and questionnaires for swallowing disorders and malnutrition risk. The results revealed significant discrepancies between BMI-based assessments and other tools like laboratory parameters, MUST, and EAT-10, indicating that BMI alone is insufficient for evaluating malnutrition in these patients. The study emphasized the importance of validated methods for assessing muscle mass, as per GLIM criteria, and found that albumin is not a reliable nutritional marker in this context.
