V diferenciální diagnostice je nutné odlišit přenesené bolesti z kůže a vnitřních orgánů hrudníku, břicha a pánve. Bolesti vycházející ze zad dělíme na specifické - nejčastěji při degenerativním onemocnění, dále úrazy, nádory, záněty a nespecifické, které převažují a jejich příčinou je většinou svalová dysbalance a přetížení svalových úponů. Důležité je vždy myslet a závažné onemocnění a které nás upozorní červené praporky. U chronických bolestí je možný vliv psychosociálních faktorů k jejich odhalení se používají žluté praporky. eng	Differential diagnosis of back pain	Pain is one of the most common reasons why patients seek primary and emergency medical care. In differential diagnosis, it is necessary to distinguish between referred pain from the skin and internal organs of the chest, abdomen, and pelvis. Pain originating in the back can be divided into specific pain, most commonly associated with degenerative diseases, injuries, tumors, and inflammation, and nonspecific pain, which is more prevalent and is usually caused by muscle imbalance and muscle strain. It is always important to consider serious diseases and the red flags that alert us to them. In the case of chronic pain, psychosocial factors may play a role; yellow flags are used to identify them.
