eng Quality of life in patients with stable coronary artery disease: a qualitative study Cardiovascular diseases are still first cause of mortality in Czech Republic. Nurses play a major role in the provision of care for patients suffering of stable coronary artery disease (SCAD). In order to choose a adequate tool for evaluation of QoL, it is necessary to know the health problems and limitations of SCAD patients. This pilot qualitative study aims to describe important areas affecting patients with SCAD and to explore the most appropriate QoL tool for a following quantitative study. The qualitative study design was chosen using semi-structured interviews with a purposive sample. Six patients with SCAD undergoing coronarography were intervied about cardiac limitations and quality of life. EuroQoL (in version EQ-5D-3L) and Seattle angina questionnaire (SAQ) were additionally used. A control group of 4 patients without SCAD and undergoing coronarography was assesed to exclude influence of comorbidities. A relevant article was processed too. Data were processed in Atlas.ti software. All six patients described their limitations in activities of daily living. Dyspnoea and pain with variable frequency was stated too by all six patients. The control group had the similar results in satisfaction with treatment. The results were in accordance with processed article. Specific QoL instrument with all mentioned main difficulties was searched in PROQOLID database. SAQ was found to be the most appropriate tool with all relevant dimensions. Patients suffering of SCAD described different difficulties than patients undergoing coronarography without diagnosis of SCAD. Main symptoms stated in QoL were chest pain, dyspnoea and physical activities limitations.Qualitative interviews highlighted the most important symptoms influencing QoL of SCAD patients. The most appropriate disease specific SAQ will be used for a following quantitative study assessing QoL. This tool should make it possible to determine patients QoL affected by SCAD and other comorbidities. quality of life; angina pectoris; qualitative study
