Interest in studying IT results in the following questions: What motivated the new incoming students to choose this branch of study? Was it good career prospects, a relatively good financial reward, an interesting job, the students? own interest in IT or other reasons? To find answers to the above questions, we decided to examine the reasons why the students choose IT- orientated branches of study. For the side of the universities, these results will be important for increasing the motivation of their future students and influencing their decision-making processes. The survey of the decision-making process when choosing IT studies was carried out by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics and the Faculty of Economics and Administration of the University of Pardubice in the form of a pilot project. After the basic evaluation of the pilot survey, the researchers modified, deleted or re-formulated some of the questions to increase the informative value.	Students;IT studies; survey
