eng	Comparison of communication difficulties and quality of life of persons with hearing loss	The aim of this work is to refer to various options of evaluation of hearing loss and communication problems in hearing-impaired patients. Sophisticated instrumental diagnostics is predominantly used in contemporary audiological diagnostics. However, these diagnostic tools lack a certain dimension, which is a subjective perception of the patient’s problems. Individual patients perceive severity of their communication problems differently depending on their ability to compensate their hearing impairment. Every patient has a different ability to deduce the missing parts of misheard words. Therefore, standard examination methods are nowadays increasingly complemented by evaluation of social and psychic problems linked to hearing and also by assessment of quality of life. This research used the classification of hearing thresholds using tone threshold audiometry according to WHO in combination with two questionnaires: WHOQOL-BREF, a WHO instrument assessing quality of life, and Hearing Handicap Inventory for Adults (HHIA), a questionnaire assessing communication problems. All hearing-impaired patients are interviewed in Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery. The cooperation with the clinical workplace includes examination of patients, who are monitored because of their work in risk environment concerning risk of noise-induced hearing loss. 8 patients with mild hearing loss, 22 patients with moderate hearing loss, and 11 patients with severe hearing loss were enrolled in research. A statistically significant difference in their assessment of an overall quality of life was found between the groups of patients with moderate hearing loss and severe hearing loss (p=0.002). A statistically significant difference was also found between the group of patients with mild hearing loss and severe hearing loss (p=0.010).
