eng Quality and Safety of Health Care Related to Pain Management Introduction: The need to incorporate quality and safety into healthcare is related to a number of factors. The quality of health care is defined as: a) being provided in reasonable way given the patient´s current condition, b) beneficial for health or quality of life, c) acceptable, d) safe. Other criteria are: competent medical staff, equipment, care is well-documented, professionally justifiable, and economical. Pain occurs frequently and causes stress to hospitalized patients. Poorly managed pain leads to adverse physical and psychological outcomes and the poor quality of life in general. The evaluation and documentation of pain are essential for effective pain management. Aim of the study: The overall aim of this study is to develop proposals for maintaining or improving pain management in county hospital with acute care. To reach this aim, three sub-aims have been defined: 1) to describe the current management of pain; 2) to determine patients' satisfaction with pain management; 3) to determine how the health care staff perceives the current pain management in this health care facility. Methods: Mixed research design will be applied including content analysis of medicals' prescriptions and pains' score records in medical documentation of patients after surgery, structured interviews with those patients (satisfaction with pain management) and non-structured interviews with health-care staff focused on their perception of the current pain management in a health care facility.
