eng Comparison of Czech version of the Hearing Handicap Inventory for Adults with the results of the pure tone audiometry threshold Introduction Increasing average age of the European population carries a lot of social problems in the nursing field. One of these problems is the deterioration of hearing which is more significant with older age and greatly reduces the life satisfaction of patients. It is advisable to improve diagnostic methods that are focused on evaluation of subjective issues of people with hearing loss. One of the possible mechanisms for assessing and quantifying the subjective issues of people with hearing loss is questionnaire Hearing Handicap Inventory for Adults (HHIA). Aim of the study The main objective of this research is to find out the correlation between results of the HHIA and between the measured hearing thresholds using tone audiometry. Methods The research sample included patients with sensorineural hearing loss in both ears symmetric aged 20-65 years. For the evaluation of hearing impairment in emotional and social areas was used Czech version of the questionnaire HHIA. These results were compared with the threshold of hearing at the main speech frequencies (0.5, 1, 2, 4 kHz), which was measured using a pure tone audiometry threshold. Results We examined 72 patients with hearing loss (17 women and 55 men) with a mean age of 52.04 years. It was proven correlation between the auditory threshold and results of the questionnaire HHIA in emotional r = 0.55583 and social r = 0.65056 areas. Discussion / conclusion Adequate assessment of hearing impairment in terms of problems in emotional and social aspects of life with hearing loss can help healthcare professionals in the treatment process. For a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment, it is appropriate to involve the patient in the care of his health as much as possible. Practical or academic relevance Mentioned questionnaire can be used to complement existing diagnostic for evaluation of the benefit of hearing aid with repeated filling patient.
